Bow Grips

One of the most important aspects of the compound bow is the feel of the bow grip. If you don’t have a grip that feels comfortable in your hand it is unlikely that you are going to get the most out of your bow. Most of the bow manufacturers, when they present their new bow specifications, make special mention of the type of bow grip that has been equipped on the bow.

Certain bow grips are designed so that your wrist position is at a high position, making it difficult for those who prefer to hold there wrist at a low position to get the right angle. A Mathews bow grip is designed more to promote the high wrist position. Some grips are wider than others which can cause problems if you find that your fingers don’t close comfortably around it.

Not all bow grips are designed with the same features or with the same attention to comfort. A good grip may be made from a resin laminate that will match the finish of the bow itself or, more importantly, will allow you to grip the bow in such a way that you will be comfortable while making your shot.

Take, for instance, Hoyt Archery and their grips. By casting your eye over the range of bows you can see that there is a marked difference from one to another. Hoyt’s grips are made by Pro-Fit Custom Grips and are shaped differently from each other to suit small to large hand sizes as well as being shaped for comfort.

Generally speaking you will find that most bow manufacturers have their own style of bow grips. This makes the particular brand feel distinctive in your hand. It’s not to say that you must stick with the bow grip that originally came with the bow. If all other aspects of the bow meet your requirements but it feels uncomfortable in the grip the answer could be to buy a new bow grip.
