Bow Releases and Release Aids
An archery bow release or a release aid is an important piece of equipment for both competition target shooters and bow hunters alike. The bow release enables the shooter to release the bow string in a much more steady fashion. The mechanical nature of the release provides a more steady string and this means accuracy will be improved.

There is a reasonable level of choices when it comes to various types of bow releases with either trigger releases or back tension releases proving to be the more widely preferred. In both cases the release aid is attached to the bow string at the nocking point and the string is drawn back into full draw. When the shooter is set they may either depress the trigger to release the bow or pull the release back after the safety has been disengaged to fire the bow.
Bow Release Variations
There are a few different styles of bow releases made by the various different manufacturers with two very distinctly different looking releases to start with. As far as looks go you might want to choose between a bow release with a wrist strap or a finger hook release.
There are a number of ways in which the bow release operates as well. The release may be a trigger that either works when a button is depressed or it may work by the trigger being depressed, held and then released. Some releases may be back tension releases where the trigger occurs when there is a change in the amount of tension that is placed on the release and some releases are triggered by a change in the position of the release. The release may operate on the basis of a certain draw weight being reached.
Suffice to say, there are quite a few variables surrounding the many different releases available. Price, the materials used in the wrist bands, the materials used in the release jaws, the length of the release, the angle of the release, the comfort it gives the hand, the sensitivity of the trigger will all factor into the decision making process for the archer.
