The 2010 Martin Firecat TR2 has taken the old version of the Firecat with the superior speed and the light frame and have made some improvements to turn the bow into an even more impressive unit. The problem with cam lean has been eliminated by the improved hybrid CAT 2 Cam thanks to the helical track that ensures the cable tracking is maintained.

The draw length of the bow can be easily adjusted without the need for a press thanks to the rotatable draw methods and the wall can be fine tuned by an adjustable draw stop.

Very similar to the 09 Firecat with the exception of the draw cycle, they redid the modules for 2010 which helped smooth out the back end.Still a very fast,quiet shooting bow.

The modules have been redesigned to eliminate the cables rubbing, and therefore ruining the serving on the cable. The module is made narrower with a slightly deeper groove and all the edges are rounded.

I'm not certain I can tell much of a difference in the draw cycle, but the bow does shoot pretty well. It's only been a couple weeks and I'm still doing a lot of tweaking, but mechanically it's been an improvement.

My Switchback and my Firecat TR2 are as close to identical as two bows can be from different manufacturers. I can hardly tell one from the other and can cannot shoot one better then the other.

However there is one thing that is different. The Firecat TR2 makes a thud/swoosh/"sound" at the shot. The Switchback is more or less silent. Looking at the bows the one thing that is different is the rubber string stops near the cam and idler. They also both have a string stop rod with the soft rubber stopper opposite the threaded stabilizer hole.

The Firecat TR2 is not a problem, but I sure would like it to be as silent as the Switchback XT. Is it the string? What is it that makes the sound of the shot? The Firecat TR2 is so smooth to draw and the wall or draw stop is perfectly solid. It's a just about a perfect bow.

I own a Martin Scepter 4 with furious cams and elite limbs. I bought the bow brand new last year and must say it is a great bow to shoot 3D and spots very smooth and accurate and mine’s not set up with the shoot through, I tried it and didn't see much difference so I put mine back and bought a roller cable slide in which I gained 6 fps.

They brought that bow out this year as their ultimate finger/target bow and cancelled the Razor X bow (I think).

I know eventually I'll get a fingers compound. Right now it's a toss up between the Bowtech Constitution and the Martin Scepter 4. I lean toward the Bowtech though because parallel limbs are real nice to shoot.

Man I have to say this is one sweet bow. I had the opportunity to shoot it today. I really like how the bow feels in the hand . Seems to balance well with the fuse stabilizer 6" Model. There is no hand shock what so ever. I do hear a twanging noise after the shot though I just can place my finger on? I have checked all my accessories and all are tight and locked down. I did notice a difference in speed with the 7" Bh vs. the 7 5/8" Bh of my Cougar III. Also i did notice the bow is a bit louder at 70# than it is at say 64# which I shoot and even quieter at 55#. I think the noise I am hearing is re-verb of the string after the shot.Great bow. If you are looking for a hunting or light weight target bow, this is seriously worth a look.

My son shoots one and loves it. It holds very steady and shoots well. He has a 26 or 27 inch draw, not sure. His arrows weighs around 376 grains and shooting 270 fps. The only dislike is the factory strings. We have new ones coming.

Hey there. I brought the Martin Pantera in august of 07'. You are right about it being a sweet bow. It is very accurate. The only drawback is the weight. I hunt deer and elk in NE Oregon and 6-8mile/day hiking is the norm. The bow is extremely heavy. I didn't notice it when I was shooting at the shop...It didn't have any accessories on. Once I added the sights, stabilizer, quiver, and arrows it was too much.

My Dad bought one of these about a month ago in blue fusion and I finally got to shoot it the other night.
Very very impressive bow. Reminds me alot of the Guardian, except is easier to draw.
The cams on it are very smooth, quite round in the profile, so none of the vicious peaks and valley you get one some bows.
The bow is very light weight due to the thinner limbs and large cutouts, yet unlike many bows who use these combos it did not bounce left-right while aiming.
The shot was quite incredible. No kick. Similar to the Guardian.
The new Hoyt cam uses modules as well so changing draw lengths is easy.

Great bow. If you are looking for a hunting or light weight target bow, this is seriously worth a look.

In comparing the Bowtech Captain to the Hoyt Alphamax 35 one person pointed out that they were really too close to call though as to which better shooting bow. They are both awesome shooters and feel amazing, and have their ups and downs.

Hoyt's durability/dependability and consistently smooth draw is what sold me though. I was shooting 70# 29" bows. I shoot 29.5" and 60#'s so i could tell which bow drew better/worse, and honestly, the draw on the captain was "easier" than the AlphaMax. The hump was still there in the Captain though when falling into the valley, but is much improved from previous Bowtechs. The AlphaMax was solid all the way through the pull with no hump at all, and letting it down, felt as smooth as drawing it back (something you wont experience with a binary cam). Both had walls as solid as a brick so there was no real difference that i could feel at all. I also like how the Hoyt held the weight in my hand, where with the captain it felt like I wasn’t holding anything. Certain shooters prefer different things, but I always feel like having more weight in my hand makes me steadier.

On the shot, they are just like everyone says. Both are whisper quiet, with virtually no hand shock. I thought the AlphaMax was a tad quieter, and the BT had less vibration/hand shock during the shot. To me, the AlphaMax felt better in the hand when drawn though, the BT felt a little top heavy where the AlphaMax was more well distributed in the weight department.***

Hoyt Powerhawk Compound Bow

The Hawk series of compound bows were first released in 2009 and were designed to give the shooter a light bow that was also fast and powerful but was able to fill the mid-price niche. The Powerhawk, along with the Superhawk, is a hunter’s bow that was given a lot of technological superiority.

The bow has Hoyt composite ZR 12 Split Limbs as well as the Pro-Fit Grip as standard and is powered by the M4 Cam & ½ Performance System. The M4 looks and acts very similar to other Cam and Half derived systems in the Hoyt line up with a 75% let off. IBO speed with the M4 cams peaks out at 303 ft/sec which is definitely speedy enough for hunting. It is adjustable to 4 inches of variation in ½ inch increments.

The suggested retail price of the Powerhawk is only $499, however it should be possible to buy this bow as part of a package that will include a range of accessories making it a very attractive bow for the beginner.

Basically the Powerhawk compound bow provides a bow with many of the features of the more advanced bows in the Hoyt range but at a lower price. This is a good bow for any bowhunter looking for some value for money.

The Powerhawk and Growler are the same identical bows. Hoyt I believe owned Reflex, and manufactured bows under Reflex's name. Last year I believe that Hoyt did away with Reflex, and started marketing these cheaper bows, but still great quality under the Hoyt name. So the only difference in the 2 is one says Hoyt and the other says Reflex.

As far as the Turbohawk and Powerhawk, the limbs are different (laminated ones on the Turbohawk) and different cams.

Between a powerhawk and a turbohawk,I would definately get the turbohawk.It's a 2010 model.I agree,I've shot the new turbohawk and it's an excllent value.Very similar to an alphamax but the cheaper riser is where you save the money. For a hunting bow,you may not even notice a difference.

I have a 2007 Reflex Growler which is basically a Hoyt Powerhawk. The only difference between the Powerhawk and the Superhawk is that the Powerhawk has glass limbs instead of laminate limbs. I heard the Turbohawk is a step up from the Superhawk. Anyway, that being said I am extremely happy with my bow. It draws very smooth and there is absolutely no hand shock on the shot. The price was right also. Hoyt came out with those bows to take pick up the mid-price market since the Reflex line of Hoyt was eliminated. I believe Hoyt makes one of the top bows on the market. I am a little biased though. I have owned two since 2003 and have not had any problems.

Hoyt Proelite Compound Bow

Over the years the Elite series of compound bows from the Hoyt range has had enormous tournament success showing remarkable consistency of performance. The ProElite compound bow was popular with tournament and 3-D shooters particularly for its forgiveness thanks to the cam and ½ technology. The reason for the popularity came down to one main thing, the bow was used to win a lot of competitions and this speaks volumes for the performance and accuracy.

The bow used a riser technology that allowed the bow superior lateral stiffness. The technology was known as the TEC Shoot-Thru design and it give the shooter added balance and a more stable shot. The key feature that this gave the bow was a combination of tremendous accuracy and a lot of forgiveness without having to sacrifice speed.

It is still possible to find a Proelite as a used compound bow. You should simply ensure that the bow is set up to closely resemble your own shooting style or that tit is possible to only make minor changes to the bow for it to remain as a high performance competition bow.

The ProElite and the UltraElite have been replaced in the 2010 line up by two new bows, the Contender and the Contender Elite that are predicted to carry on the tournament winning ability of their predecessors.

The choice of cams i.e. cam 1/2 against C2 is more about feel than anything else, the difference in speed is meaningless particularly for target shooting, and anything else come to that. I can't see any reason for not using adjustable cams, it's very usefull to be able to experiment with draw length. The choice between pro or ultra elite is a personel one, each has their own fan club. I like the Prolelite and with 3000 limbs and cam 1/2 + it would be my ideal bow.

I like the ProElite quite well...I would probably look at an even larger ATA on a pure target bow though. the Vantage X8 looks very nice as well (hoyt guys, mobow...why don't I hear more mention of this bow? On paper it looks like a great bow, but all I ever hear about are people shooting the ProElite and UltraElite.

The Hoyt Turbohawk compound bow is a new lightweight bow that is part of the Hawk Series of bows. It fills the need for a bow that won’t tire the arms of the lighter framed shooter but it allows you the accuracy and luxury of a super silent shot with almost no hand shock. The bow only weighs 3.75lbs and it features XTS 500 laminated limbs which is where it picks up the smoothness.

The bow is powered by the modular-adjustable XTR Cam & ½ Performance System giving you a high performance bow. The modular draw-length adjustment means that it allows easy adjustment without the need for a bow press and you will also not have to sacrifice performance to get it. The other big feature that could be important to some shooters is the price with this bow filling the lower cost end of the market.

What they’re saying about the Hoyt Turbohawk

Just purchased a turbohawk yesterday. Shot it side by side with the alphamax 32 for about a half hour and couldn't tell the difference between the two, except for the $250 price tag (with the rebate). Shot it a bunch last night and it seems to be very forgiving, quiet, and smooth.

The Hawk series does not have a MACHINED Aluminum riser, they actually have a cast magnesium alloy riser (hence why they say Mag Casting). Say what you will about it, but this is actually a pretty big downfall for this bow. Also, the Hawk series does not have any sort of string dampening system as well. Essentially what it boils down to it that a forged and machined riser is going to be way stronger than a cast.
