G5 Prime Shift Compound Bow

The G5 Prime Shift compound bow is a short framed bow that is part of the premium line of G5 Outdoors. It features a forged 7000 series aluminum riser to provide it with the stiffness and lightness that will appeal to a wide selection of archers. The Forged 7000 is the first of its kind and is twice as strong as the 6061 T6 aluminum used by other makers. The bow was first released in 2011 and has now improved through the use of the lighter metal.

The bow is powered by a new cam system that the company has called its Parallel Cam technology and it has been designed to eliminate cam lean and improve the accuracy of the bow. The Ti-Glide Titanium flexing cable system is another innovation that works in concert with the cam system to combat cam lean. Accuracy is also improved through the C2 cross weft design which means the torsional stress will be reduced.

The Shift compound bow is a shorter framed bow than the Centroid, which is also part of G5’s Prime line, but the brace height is a forgiving 7” just the same. With an IBO speed of 332 fps the bow is fast without being considered explosively so but where the bow really excels is in the smoothness of the draw and release cycle.

The Prime series of compound bows from G5 represent the premium line in their range and is currently made up of the Shift that is discussed on this page as well as the Centroid.

What they're saying in the forums about the G5 Prime Shift

I have shot both models of the G5 prime bows and I am most impressed with the G5 Prime Shift. This bow had to be the best short axle to axle bow I ever shot (30" A2A). It held like a longer axle to axle bow and was the quieter and most vibration free bow out of the two. The G5 Shift Centroid has a axle to axle length of 34.25" and was not as quiet and had more hand shock than the other one. I was a little disappointed in that. But I must say this bow held on the target like a target bow.

Over all I am very impressed with the new G5 bows. These have to be some of the best bows I have ever shot. If anyone is in the market for a new bow I highly recommend you give the G5 a try.

If I had to grade them on a scale of 1-10 Id give the Centroid a 8.5 and the Shift a 9.5

I shot one today, and cant think of anything negative to say, and I'm pretty picky other than the $949 price tag

I've been shooting the Shift for a few months now and I think it's a fantastic bow. I know a bunch of guys that were shooting the Primal last year (myself included) and all of em said that it easily rivaled any of the other high end bows out there, and all of em are saying that the jump to a Prime is a definite improvement. I personally noticed a huge improvement in how well I shot when I made the switch.
